This Creepy Thriller
The director's locked-room horror stands strong without requiring a sequel. Set in 1970s Colorado, several kidnappings has left the youth frightened. Once Finney is kidnapped by “the Grabber” and imprisoned in a dungeon, he dreads a fatal end. However, the non-functional line on the wall continues to ring, with eerie communicators offering help, and the intuitive nightmares of Gwen, his sister could save him. A genuinely scary movie. Saturday 11 October, late evening, on Film4
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the battle between God and Mammon, the victory is clear for Mammon in this director's wonderfully garish true story about the fallen televangelist and her criminal husband. Garfield acts as the greedy Jim, who proclaims at the beginning, asserting religious justification for riches. The couple commence monetising the people's Christian beliefs. It's a spectacle of bad interior design, bad makeup and bad faith, though the lead actress manages to present the real-life figure as a sympathetic figure. October 14th, late night, on Film4
